This article really strikes a nerve. School violence and "cyber bullies" are concerns of mine as well. In <a href="<a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1395/1281/1600/Shootings2005.jpg" rel="nofollow">photos1.blogger.com/.../Shootings2005.jpg</a>">all areas</a> of the country, school violence is rearing its ugly head. Baltimore has it pretty nasty, and the school system over there has tried some pretty wacky things, like <a href="<a href="http://www.examiner.com/a-1443192~Paying_students_for_better_grades_is_partially_effective__study_says.html">paying" rel="nofollow">www.examiner.com/...tudy_says.html">paying</a> students</a> for getting good grades. I see that recently they're trying to reach out to the parents and community. Prevention is the way to go here, and there are <A href="<a href="http://stopbullyingnow.hrsa.gov/adult/indexAdult.asp?Area=preventiontips">plenty" rel="nofollow">stopbullyingnow.hrsa.gov/.../indexAdult.asp</a> of excellent strategies</a> to go about it. The plan from the Baltimore city school chief, Andres Alonso, is a step in the right direction to at least <a href="<a href="http://www.examiner.com/a-1433319~Schools_to_reach_out_to_parents_in_person__online.html?cid=rss-Baltimore">put" rel="nofollow">www.examiner.com/...parents_in_person__online.html</a> the parents in contact</a> with the school system. However, no part of his plan does anything to directly address school violence.

It seems preposterous to me that we are discussing our students and enemies and adversaries now, but we have no choice. Violence is out of hand but it has to do with the culture within the family structure. These students are children, though they may have technology, they are the same as children that have passed before them with only one major difference; neglect. The children of today are not given what every child secretly craves boundaries and routine. These children are left to fend for themselves and that leads to feeling like you are always vunerable and have to defend yourself. The students form more involved cliques for emotional security and pack mentality breeds agression. We need to love these children and be stern to give them what they need even if they don't want it.
